ANSYS FLEUNT Wind turbine model

I am a Masters student currently trying to model a wind turbine moving in an enclosure in Ansys. so far i have an appropriate enclosure with a wind turbine model blades within it. however i have had trouble trying to get the blades to move as the wind hits the blades to simulate it moving. any help would be appreciated!

Hi:
you should either set the angular velocity of the rotor's blades using sliding mesh formulation in FLUENT or use a 6DOF model that can solve the equation of the rigid motion of the rotor. But to implement the former formulation you have to set for example an opposed torque as a fuction of the rotor velocity to avoid having an infinite angular velocity. But, first I would suggest you to take a look at his forum searching for some examples of cases that can help you with your problem and what are the approaches used in this kind of simulations. thank you for your reply i am currently working on trying to apply a sliding mesh for fluent. can i just ask : is it necessary to apply another mesh onto the rotor itself? so far i have an enclosure around the free rotor , but i have seen some examples of a secondary disc applied to the rotor itself . could you explain this please ? thank you again for your help ! |

Mmm, I don't know if I understand you very well. But if you mean tha you have to enclosure the entire rotor in a disc, yes you have to do it to aply the sliding mesh formulation. If it isn't what are you trying to do, then, can you post an image of your computational domain and mesh so I can see what your geometry and mesh look like? But for a sliding mesh formulation i would use a big enclosure to aply the free stream conditions far from the wind turbine, and another disc to enclosure the rotor itself to set the velocity on the rotor.
