How five step combustion of Ch4-air can be included? Is it necessary to go for Chemkin mechanism files if it is not in Fluent.

can any one help me out with this in FLUENT
I want to know what is the value of 'i' (index) so that I can use C_YI (c,t,i). I have number of species mixture for combustion i am using EDDY DISSIPATION MODEL. So how can I count for species index? |

Run simulation in steady case for appropriate time after this, change steady to transient. if u have problem with transient combustion and if your combustion is not working in steady case then go to solution controls>advance Solution Controls>Expert and then enable the elements in expert tab and gave appropriate values, may be 10. Pseudo Transient must enable in Solution Methods.

After initialization with EDM solution, if you get no combustion, unfortunately you will never ever see combustion. Probably your flame is blowed-out.

@Andrea1984 I am trying to study the combustion in igniter using kerosene - oxygen both coming from a separate stream. I want to use the EDC model for getting the temperature distribution on the igniter walls. So, as per the ANSYS Fluent user guide, I am running the simulation using species transport model with a non-premixed model of combustion for 600 iterations. Then I am using this solution as an initial solution for the EDC model. But as the simulation is going with the EDC model, the temperature is decreasing continuously and settled up with 300K which is the inlet temperature of both kerosene and oxygen. I don't know what's going wrong with the EDC model. Can u please guide me?

Hi Ruchit, sorry but it has been quite a long since I have been working on this. Does combustion take place when you use the non-premixed flamelet model?

@Andrea1984 Thanks for the reply.
Yes, Combustion is happening in the domain as I can see the products and other radicals formed and the highest temperature is around 2400K up to 600 iterations but it was showing "the highest pdf enthalpy exceeded in some cells" during running the simulation with the non-premixed model. |

As I said I'm a bit rusty on the subject, but in my experience EDC was working fine when initialized from the results obtained with a flamelet model.
Do you have heat losses in your case? Maybe try an adiabatic run first? |

Does the flamelet model mean a steady diffusion flamelet model? I am running the non-premixed model with chemical equilibrium.

My case was actually partially-premixed so I was using the partially premixed model with premixed flamelets to generate my initial condition. Anyway any initial condition with a reasonable temperature and species distribution should work.
