Hello everyone,
Recently I am learning Fluent 14.0 for my research. My professor wants me to import geometry from AutoCAD and then analysis by Fluent. We both don't know much about Fluent. Could anyone please tell me what will be the steps? After creating geometry, should I import it on workbench or import on ICEM or Tgird ( I dont have GAMBIT) and then again import on Fluent ?

I tried to follow the step for importing geometry in workbench, but it says import is failed.

from autocad, export geometry to ICEM CFD, Mesh it, then export to fluent... these are basic steps for cfd, are you familiar with that ?

I am little bit familiar with these step after coming to this forum. I read some post form this forum , and most of them said about GAMBIT for meshing, that's why I am getting worried, since I don't have GAMBIT. Is ICEM if applicable for all kind of geometry and all kind of mesh ? I googled, but didn't find clear idea. Thanks in advance.

yeah icem cfd is a strong and easy tool. also check out my signature, i joined a link to become familiar with it... when you start meshing, adress your problem in the ansys geometry and meshing section instead of fluent section. you will get more help...

I tried yesterday to import the CAD geometry to ICEM. It says some .tan file, but I couldn't find any .tan format. Any suggestion from you about importing CAD to ICEM?

don't use the import fonction, use "workbench readers" and select the geometry you want to open. also when you export your geometry in autocad, i suggest using the step of iges file type. good luck with that

Hi, I am sorry for bothering you again and again. When I try to import geometry (just a simple geometry, a rectangle) using workbench reader, it gives me the following message.

Importing file C:/Users/mhbhuiy/Desktop/Drawing1.igs

ERROR: pIPartMgr->AttachAssembly() failed!
Current Coordinate system is global
Done

I drew the geometry in Auto CAD 2013 and exported as IGES(.igs) format.

thats weird it should not happen. close icem cfd and open it. or try the step format... see if it solves the problem

What I usually do for importing geometry is to convert that into *.SAT format. For 2D iges works fine, while for 3D geometry go for *.SAT format.
