Hey,
I am quite new to using Gambit and I having problems with mesh generation for my helical tube. The tutorials suggest many different ways but I havent got a clue when it comes to determining the mesh type, size, interval etc. I have attached the link to a screenshot of my model. Thanks in advance, Vineeth http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=so0l86&s=6 |

cooper should be ok, but I assume you need to split the volume along its axis.
Instead of one helical tube, you will have many successive helical tubes.

Thx a lot for replying Max.
Now why do you say that I should split at different volumes? What good will that do? Does this step by step meshing help the system in processing better and faster? I tried to do the Cooper mesh on the whole volume. The system almost locked up. |

beacause your volume can be meshed with cooper, but due to its length, I assume gambit won't be able to mesh it on the fly.
But it you give him tiny volumes, then I am pretty sure it will automatically mesh it with cooper. Just give it a try

Dear Max,
As you suggested, I split the entire volume into 4 smaller volumes. Now, when I try to mesh each one of them errors start to crop up. These are the errors associated with the meshing of each volume 1. independent loops of swept faces on volume 2 had mismatched intervals 2. natural source face for projecting volume 3 could not be found 3. the intervals would force the mesh to cross itself could not be meshed using cooper scheme 4. check the interval assignments for correctness volume 7 One of the volumes[shows 'meshing face 4' and it never ends] take very long to mesh and the process eventually terminates saying not enough memory. Pls help me out.! |

I have attached the image of the split volumes.
The new volumes are 5,6 and 7 as indicated. Splitting was done using face split[hope it's all right]. |

But then what about those errors? Do you mean by splitting the volumes further all of the errors will get resolved?

once you have a small volume (about 1 winding), then try to mesh the voluem. Gambit should assign it automatically as cooper
If not, then enforce cooper scheme, and select one extremity as source (previously meshed with pave for instance)
