Hello everyone, I'm having a problem when using the autosave function in Fluent v13. I have it installed on my laptop (Vista), and the calculations run fine, but the program stops and gives me the error when it does auto save saying
Error: error writing compressed file Error Object: #f Any suggestions as to why this is happening and what the solution is? I would really appreciate it. Thanks! |

Hi. It could be due to the path root name. e.g. if the folder name where your are working has a 'strange' character, like ?,!,",ñ,etc. try to rename your folders. Hope this help

Hi,
It also happens when your hard drive is full, or if you don't have the correct rights on the folder. Marion. |

Also, are you writing to a local disk or server? This has caused me angst in the past.

Thanks for the replies. It's not a new file, just a new version of Fluent (upgraded from 12) and I'm on a laptop now with admin account on Vista. Working dir is my flash drive (G and so is my saving location. No funny characters in the directory (except underscores). I have tried changing my save location to D:drive, but no difference.
This is what appears in the pop up box Error writing "| gzip -2cfv > J:\MZ\turbine_closed_files\dp0\FLU-2\Fluent\SYS-3-01205.cas.gz". Last edited by mzalzala; September 18, 2012 at 12:04. |

Did you run Fluent in parallel? In my experience some user created geometry (points, planes, etc.) could cause problem in parallel mode. Try cleaning those geometry and rerun. You should also try to write the file uncompressed to see if it helps to avoid the error.

By 'series' you mean serial mode? The error message only has 1 line?

Power options setting in the PC should be changed to overcome this error. Set 'put computer to sleep' as 'never', and then in 'change advanced power settings', click on 'hard disk' and set 'turn off hard disk after' to 'never'. Also ensure that in the 'sleep' option, 'sleep after', 'allow hybrid sleep', and 'hibernate after' are set as 'never' ...

The power settings turns off the hard disk after # minutes so that Fluent cannot write to the disk and hence throws the error during a simulation. If you don't have an autosave problem then the power settings don't make a difference. If you're saving over a network drive then make sure your network doesn't go to sleep. Check to make sure you have write permissions etc in that directory and that your disk is not full. And try saving uncompressed files to see if you still have the same issue (usually the problem isn't because of the compression so normally you do have the same problem). |

I've encountered the same problem when i tried to calculate. When i tried to close Fluent the same problem faced me..
Error: Error writing compressed file "FFF.1-Setup-Output.cas.gz" Error Object: #f I solved the problem by the following procedure; 1. I had to force Fluent to stop (Task manager >Select (Fluent) > End Task) 2. 'Archive'/'Save As' the project from the workbench to other directory and run Fluent from this directory. |

Hey guys,
So all of the above solutions did not work for me but I found a fix!!! I think this could be an issue with people on windows 10 but not sure. Basically i realized that my gzip.exe was also crashing when I recieved the error, so i went into the fluent folder and found the gzip.exe and did a simple test to see if it would work in cmd. Basically i tried to gzip a text file and found that it crashed!! Yureka! So this told me that the gzip.exe file itself was corrupt or not compatible with windows. So I went to: http://www.gzip.org/gzip124xN.zip Got the new gzip.exe and replaced this one with the one installed in my ansys folder at C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v170\fluent\ntbin\win64 and overwrote the gzip.exe. Now everything works!!! If this helped you, please consider checking out and subscribing to my youtube channel at: www.youtube.com/user/drdalyo I have some video tutorials in CFD, Regards |
