Remeshing problems!

Hello Everybody!
I’m having problems with my dynamic mesh. My problem involves two parallel walls moving towards each other, compressing the mesh in-between where I’m using a triangular mesh. What you also can see here is how the remeshing seems to work in the other parts of the zone, but in the middle it crashes. I’m using remeshing together with smoothing and I have tried all kinds of combination between the Spring Constant Factor (0-0.5) and the Boundary Node Relaxation (0.5-1), without good results. Either the mesh crashed at the upper wall, by the sides of the domain or like in the picture, in the middle. Also I have tried Local Cell, Local Face and Region Face Remeshing methods in various combination. I would be very thankful if anyone has a thought on how to solve this problem. If you have 2 parallel faces moving towards each other, then mesh the faces (and the distance they are moving) with hex/prism cells and use the layering option

Hi Luke,
Thanks for your advice. My problem is that the upper and lower wall start in a position almost parallel to each other, but the movement is not parallel. The lower wall twists, and the left part moves faster. So this means the deformation is not equally distributed. The problem is two-dimensional and I am working on a quadrilateral mesh, but with an overall complicated geometry, this is a bit tricky. Is this worth spending time on, or is there something I can try with the triangular mesh? Regards, Jen |

A quad mesh will only work for the 'Layering' option. For 'Remeshing' you need a tri mesh.
I have used 'Layering' and '2.5D' successfuly but not 'Remeshing'. You might want to get in touch with Fluent Support for further assistance. Regards Luke |
