Question Modelling solid within a fluid

Hi everyone,

I'm just getting started with FLUENT 14.0 (and computer simulations of fluid flows in general) so I hope this isn't too stupid a question. I'm trying to model the situation of having a solid sphere inside a cylinder in which fluid flows, and analysing the subsequent heat transfer to the sphere.

From what I understood, the way to do this is to create the cylinder, remove the sphere from the geometry using cut material, freeze the cylinder, and then add the sphere material back in. And then mesh, solve, etc.

However, this doesn't seem to be working for me. The fluid flow solves fine but it doesn't seem to recognise the heat flow across the fluid/solid boundary. I've read through the manual and the forums but there doesn't seem to be much help on this particular issue. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I think your way of creating geometry should work. Although I usually create cylinder > freeze> add sphere by slice material. Then in the bottom left that displays solid/fluid you may need to add the two into one part?
