mila.d.b is on a distinguished road
Hi all,

I am doing multiphase Solid/Liquid/Gas simulations using Fluent (the lateste version:2019 R2). The Liquid is my continuous phase. The solid volume fraction is about 30% and the gas volume fraction is very low. It is like a tank with water, the solids are like a
bed at the bottom of the reactor, and the gas would be "created" at the bed of solids.

I have been using for the Solid/liquid interaction the Eulerian Granular model.

However, as my flow has a very slow upflow velocity, I need to simulate around 300s of flow to obtain decent results. Also, I intend to expand this model to bigger reactors, and to reactors with higher velocities as well.

At the moment I am trying to work on improving the solid/liquid simulations only (to have a better model, before I include the gas)

The problem: I cannot find a way to simulate the solid/liquid interactions using steady state, so I am using transient. However, it takes a very long time to simulate my case (around 7 weeks). I am using a good computer, with 16 processors and enough RAM. To advance in time I am using a higher time step than it is recommended (0.01s).

I wonder, is there a more effective (faster) way of simulating solid/liquid flows (and that also allows to add a 3rd phase later on)?

I am considering DEM or DPM simulations as well, but I have never worked with them, so not sure would speed up or make them slower.

Any inputs on how to get faster results are appreciated.
