Hello everyone,
I have been trying to simulate erosion of a sand bed placed at the bottom of an annulus using Fluent Eulerian-Eulerian model, Initially I have a bed composed of sand particles with uniform diameter placed at the bottom of the annulus, water is then introduced from the inlet, flow is turbulent, I have conducted many scenarios (different settings, i.e. different granular models or turbulent options) but I have difficulty in obtaining realistic results, predicted pressure loss is in agreement with experiments but the bed is eroded at much faster rate than experiments, now my question is Eulerian-Eulerian model the appropriate approach for this problem? am I missing something? P.S. I have seem few threads where people suggest use of DEM as Eulerian model is not capable of modeling deposition and erosion phenomena, but I am not so sure of this, Regards |

Hi,
I am also simulating bed erosion using the granular model. I have also this problem of fast erosion compared with experiments. Did you manage to solve this problem? If yes I will be grateful if you could share the solution. Thanks |

Hello,
Unfortunately I have not found the answer for sure yet, I talked to an Ansys representative (he had a PhD) he said drag force is the most important thing and it almost certainly needs to be tuned for each application but the good news was that he said Fluent can model such process, another thing that I found for myself is the turbulence model, use RSM models, the eddy viscosity models do not give good prediction for a flow with high degree of 3 dimensionalaity especially in the boundary layer, anyways at this moment I cannot give a definite answer as I have not been able to do it by myself, Have a nice day, Majid |
