Hi,

When I use the cylindrical mesh, I set Y direction from 0-360, but it seems that there is a gap at the location of 0/360 degree, which can found in the attached figure after used FAVOR render. In fact the result also show there is a gap.

How can resolve this problem?

Hi Alefem,
As I recall, you are doing casting simulations...right? Not a good idea to use cylindrical meshing for that type of problem. Stick with Cartesian.
Cheers

Hi Cylindrical mesh is typically used for 2D-Axis-Symmetry model in order to speed up simulation time. Typical application of Cylindrical mesh is Inkjet simulation. Others than that i would recommended to use Cartesian mesh.

Hi ignatz,
Yes, I am doing casting simulation.
Usually, I would like to use Cartesian mesh, but for those cylindrical mould project, I am afraid the Cartesian mesh is hard to discribe the mould boundary, so I tried the cylindrical mesh and met this problem.
Do you have any suggestion for the cylindrical mould peoblem?

Thank you ck5285,

Am I undstand right for the following?
For those 2D-Axis-Symmetry model, we only need to simulate a slice, for exmaple 30 degree, of the whole modle, so there is no gap problem as I mentioned.

hi,
i am doing a simulation of 3D problem.i want to draw it cylindrical coordinate sysyem(r,z, o).but gambit shows X , Y , Z Coordinate . how to do in cylindrical co ordinate , will it show r, z and o axis ?
i opened the Tools command button then i changed the co ordinated system to cylindrical and I acctivé it . but it still at cartesien coordinate

please reply

yes you are right, so for your problem set it to 30o if it is 2D-axis-symmetry model and if not then would recommend to use Cartesian mesh. the Cylindrical mesh is not meant for you to revolve from 0o to 360o for cylindrical object. you will always faced this problem if stay with cylindrical mesh for your model. Hope this help.

Hi noussa
you should submit your question in Fluent forum and not this Flow-3D forum.
