a wave can be generated at one of the vertical mesh boundaries - xmin, xmax, ymin or ymax. Choose a boundary, then set the z-coordinate of the average free surface location there, average fluid depth, wave period (or length) and amplitude. Also define the initial fluid volume domain to have the horizontal free surface at the same location as the average free surface location in the wave.

If this does not work, let me know what you see in the results.

Thank you for your reply,I used to set fluid height in the wave,and I did not set mean fluid depth there.I also set initial>add fluid>regionlimiters,
and I did not set>initial>volume option.As a result,it can produce wave some times.I want to see if this set is wrong.
Another problem is if FLOW3D can not produce some waves,especially in shallow water.I used to set ampitude=0.1,period=2,and (at initial>add fluid>regionlimiters)Z high=0.5m,it simulate well,but no waves at last.
would you tell me how to solve it?
