I want to simulate mold filling and solidification of a casting process. as my filling time is 11 (sec) the simulation has been restarted from 8 (sec) because of an interruption. now I want to simulate the solidification process. how can I do that while FLOW3D replace the new restart file (prepin.project) in last restart file for filling? thanks.

Hi AMP,

The restart logic changed in the last release (9.3). What version are you running?

I am using version 8.2. I want to define a restart file for solidification, but the last restart of filling simulation will be replaced.

you can do it by re-naming the files: put the two simulations of the filling in a safe folder, than copy the flsgrfr file (the restart of the filling) in a new folder and rename it as flsgrf. You can run now your prepinr file of the solidification from this last folder and nothing will be replaced.

so, what about the data of first filling file. does F3D extract them from the renamed flsgrf file?

For a restart simulation prepinr.<project>, the restart data is extracted from the flsgrf.<project>. The only condition is that the restart time TREST is within the time limits of that simulation.
