Max. RAM in Flow3D

Hi. I have a workstation with 8Gb RAM. But apparently Flow3D can only use 1 Gb RAM. If the size of the mesh needs more than 1Gb of RAM for the calculation the machine starts to swap between the harddisk and CPU and the performance gets close to 0%. Does anyone have the same problem or is it some settings in my software? Thanks.

Lars i believe this is limited by 32bit OS system. you may need to upgrade to 64bit OS system to fully utlized your 8Gb RAM. hope this help.

Hi CK. Thanks for your reply. I actually do have 64bit WIN XP. My worry was that my Flow3D version (9.3.1) had a bug that prevented the software from using more than 1Gb. I would therefore like to hear if anyone elso had experienced the same problem with this version. My older version, ver. 9.0 did not have this problem.

Lars,
FLOW-3D does not have a limitation on the memory use other than what the system can handle. It certainly cannot control swapping, this is done by the OS. I am not sure how it is done on Windows. Isn't there a paging file? Can you check its size under Control Panel>System>Peformance>Advanced? It should be at least as big the the total RAM on the machine. Michael |

Hye!
I also work on WINXP 64 OS with 8GO RAM, and have the same limitation at 1 GO used by F3D. I have made the manipulation Michael advices, but without success... Still searching... Julien |
