Hi User would like to know if someone did perform benchmark of Flow-3D with others CFD codes in VOF+Turbulent flow+moving object problem? so is Flow-3D performance better in simulation time & accuracy?

I didn't. But if you use moving objects in a simulation I suppose that FLOW-3D will run faster: it use a "fixed-mesh" approach, so you don't have to re-draw any mesh cycle by cycle and it is faster. I guess other cfd use a "moving-mesh" approach for their moving obstacles, and this is of course time consuming and you are also less free to introduce many moving objects.

Stefano I believe you used Flow-3D for your application as well right? so what to you think of Flow-3D in VOF+Turbulent+GMO kind of simulation?

we regulary use it for nautical simulation, for example. The gmo in our case are boats that float and move on the free surface, and we get very good results!

Stefano please advice what is the cell count for your model, transient time investigate, total simulation time and are you using SMP/MP version for your problem? it is easy to manually split the mesh block and assigned to different nodes with MP?

hello CK, about our transient simulations, with vof and GMO, you can look at a message right now posted by me, at the topic "Confined flow problem". You'll find there also a link to the kind of works that we do. We don't use much the MP version, at the moment SMP is enough for our needs, but splitting the blocks is very very easy. If you think it would be useful to you to have a demonstration of this, sharing our desktop, you can contact me by our website, or FlowScience too (depending on which part of the world you are).

Stefano regarding with boat simulation are you using scalling method or model the full scale model? what is the cell count and number of CPU used for SMP version? Btw, do you benchmark with VOF capabilities with others CFD codes such as Fluent and Star-CD? They also have VOF simulation capabilities.

The Earthrace simulation that you can see on our website ran on a single old Xeon (2.4GHz), on the full scale boat. We simulated a transient of about 15s, and all this took about 2days. I don't have any benchmark with other software, but consider that other software use a moving mesh approach for transient problems, while FLOW-3D has a fixed mesh one.
