hello All Users
I want to study the 3D flow structures of a solitary wave propagating
over a submerge porous barrier using LES Model. Which software do you recommend?FLUENT or FLOW3D? Does anyone have any experience at this mater? Which one gives better results for solitary wave generation and Multi-phase+VOF method? Thanks in advance.

Hi Sobhan,
I've worked with both Fluent and Flow3D. However, I don't have experience in this case (solitary wave propagation).
Generally Fluent have way more sophisticated multiphase and turbulence models, but it is numerically expensive. A free surface simulation that takes a few hours to be solved by Flow3D might take days to be solved by Fluent.

If you have access to HPC, Fluent would be better. If not F3D makes more sense.
Cheers,
Farzam

FLOW-3D has been used to perform similar studies in the past. We have a dedicated waves module with an option for different waves propagation.
Of course, like others pointed out, free surface tracking is the known strength of FLOW-3D. Additionally, we have a porous media option and inbuilt LES model as well. I do not know about ANSYS but FLOW-3D seems like a good option.
