Hi,

I'm willing to determine the stress distribution in an ogee spillway, given various operating conditions (various water levels). As it's curved and has a variable rock foundation, I think that a fluid-focused software should be better than a structure one because there'll eventually be places where water concentrates, further increasing the pressure on downstream concrete.

I have familiarity with both FLOW-3D and ABAQUS-CAE, but since they work with different meshes I find it hard to use both (determining surface pressures on F3D and internal stresses on ABAQUS). I can use ABAQUS using some theory and idealizations as starting conditions, but I lose a lot of precision on the process.

Is there a way to do it all in the same place?

Thanks

Yes, you can do it all in FLOW-3D. FLOW-3D has FSI (Fluid-strcuture interaction model) that allows you to calculate stresses on the solid body based on the fluid pressure around it.
