I am wondering how can we import in IGG a 3D model built using AutoCAD. Also we have access to ANSYS Workbench if this could help. Which file formats can IGG import? I have already tested the .dwg file and the software couldn't import it.

Hi,
IGG is not accepting the .dwg format and in fact it only accept .iges, parasolid or CATIA V5 format only from external CAD. If you are working with turbomachinery set-up, you would need 2 surfaces representing the blade and 2 curves for the hub and shroud respectively. Sir,
Thank you for the immediate answer. We don't own any of Parasolid and CATIA software. Is there any way to export the model with these extensions without the software? I would prefer not to be involved with NUMECA's designing IGG, because I am NOT familiar with it at all, but I can design 3D models in AutoCAD environment pretty well. Which are the file extensions that IGG can import? |

Hi Christos,
I am not sure what you are looking for. But most of the external CAD can export to universal file extensions named parasolid or iges. These are preferred 2 file extensions to be accepted by IGG. In here, we only support NUMECA's design tools only. Perhaps you could describe your case in more details. CJ

If i could imagine that you are designing a rotating blade (with current profile) and intended to optimize (future profile), i would recommend you to use NUMECA Autoblade(TM), the blade sketcher as well as parametric geometry for the optimization purpose. You may utilize FINE/Design3D for optimization purpose.
Could you be possible to describe with me what is the actual case study that you are working with?

Firstly I would like to thank you for the help! Also I have to make clear that I am very new to the NUMECA (and the whole computational analysis) environment and procedures, so excuse my mistakes and unfamiliarity. Sir, that what I am trying to do is to import a 3D model of cochlea (already constructed for our Hydraulics Lab and designed using AutoCAD) to NUMECA IGG, in order to practise on a "real" case, which is also the point of my work.

I have exported the 3D model (from .dwg to .igs) using ANSYS DesignModeller that has the option to export to this type of file. BUT when I am trying to import it to IGG, it shows nothing.
