propeller blade meshing

Hello,
I'm trying to make a structured mesh with IGG on a propeller blade but I've got problems of overlapping cells and I don't know why. When I just make a face grid patched on one surface (pressure or suction side) of the blade (twisted blade), IGG shows me a lot of overlapping cells which are not visible on the face grid? What's the problem? Thanks for your answers Terence |

Dear Terence:
There maybe several possibilities. Maybe your first cell distance is too small. Maybe the grid cells near leading edge or trailing edge need to adjust the direction. Maybe the grid faces get to twisted, you can change the grid style to O-mesh or J-mesh. Why not use the Autogrid software to make grids? I think it's easier and convinient than Igg for propeller meshing. |

Dear Eddy,
Thank you for your answer. In fact the propeller blade is twisted and so are the grid faces on the blade. But even if grid faces get to twisted they visually clearly don't seem to overlap. Until now I have neglected these overlapping cells because my grid quality is quite good and I have launched some computations which have converged. Is it possible to obtain convergence with overlapping cells anf if so, will I obtain erroneous results (I don't have the good results but they are not too far from the right solution and I can't know if it is due to these overlapping cells) ? I am also trying to use the Autogrid software but I have some problems to define the geometry. I am working on it. Thank you again Terence |

No I haven't heard about GridPro...But now I have spent time on numeca softwares so I would like to continue for a moment.

Thats fine Terence,if you feel there is some need for a Good quality mesh,then you can think about trying GridPro.

Dear Terence,
You can use propeller/wind turbine wizard that is now available in version AutoGrid5 8.4-1. It's automatic and provide high quality mesh. The topology is automatically adapted to twisted blade. Regards, Aji |
