Extract Values from ensight formatted data

Hi,
I want to extract some data at a specified line/position from 'ensight'-formatted data files. Does anybody have an idea how I can do this? Maybe, anybody has a small script for this? Would be nice! Right now, I use paraview for viewing the 2D/3D data, but for 1D I want to use something like gnuplot. Greetings! Fabian |

As you're pos-processing your files with Paraview why can't you use the probe filter to save the data you want as a CSV file?

Hi,
thanks for the quick response. The probe filter is not 'available'/'active' ... is there any trick to activate it? I have version 2.2 release 1. Greetings! Fabian |

Hmmm, it sounds strange...
The Paraview's (2.x releases) probe filter should be available for any Ensight case file supplied with proper geometry (*.geo file) and results file (*.scl and/or *.vec). Are you sure your case file was loaded successfuly? I think this filter only works with scalar data, but it's easy to convert vectorial data into scalar with the Paraview's calculator. cheers Renato N. Elias |

I would say that the data are loaded correctly (at least I can take a look at the data using 'Cut's and 'Glyph's, extracting parts, ...)
I read it too, that the filter just works with scalar data, so I removed the only 'vector-file' in the '*.case' file. It did not help. Greetings! Fabian |

I can't understand what is happening. I've just read an Ensight case file (3D data) on my copy of Paraview (2.2.1) and the probe filter was available.
If your files are not so large is there any problem for you to send me (rnelias@gmail.com) them? regards Renato N. Elias |

Hi Renato,
I sended the example to you. I hope it was not too large (4MB)? Greetings! Fabian |

Hi Fabian,
I've got your file and found the problem. Your geometry file contains multiple data, so Paraview has not been able to know how to apply the proble filter correctly. Try to extract the part called "solid domain", with the "Extract Parts" filter, and then apply the "probe filter" in the extracted part. Cheers Renato N. Elias http://www.nacad.ufrj.br/~rnelias |
