Is it possible to block particle traces using arbitrary surfaces? (say traces entering a certain arbitrarily shaped region should vanish)

You can use the Tools capability within EnSight to create "Inside" or "Outside" clips. In its basic form, you can use the plane tool, and "clip" the particles which are either on the positive, or negative side of the plane.
You can use the other tools like Box, Cylinder, Cone, Sphere, or Revolution Tool to "clip" the particles on either side of those tools. The Revolution tool can be helpful in being able to restrict particles. Depending upon you exact surface requirement, I've found the Revolution Tool can be typically used to restrict the particles sufficiently. More help is available through our main support channel support at ensight dot com. -Kevin
