Hi all!
Since ansys is updating its release I read that my os (SLES 11 sp2) will no longer be supported from the next release (16.1 and later).
So I'm just testing the new SLES 12 to see if all my hardware works.
I tried to install latest (I think) Ensight (10.1.2b) (tested the rpm and full install): everything is installed (after manually installing libstdc++33-3.3.3), however when started from the terminal the main window pop up (license install window), then after clicking for example "ensight free", version window and Welcome window are displayed, but it get stucked here.
In the terminal I can read an error:
transport_connect:socket_connect: connect() refused 107;
ERROR: Server: Error trying to connect in ccp_create_job_connect.
Error: transport_connect:socket_connect: connect() refused
ERROR: Could not connect to workstation indicated!

and after some time a new window shows:
Could not start up server

Do you have a fix for this or you are planning to fix it in a next release?

Thank you!

Hi Daniele,

This looks like a problem in the communication between client and server for EnSight. Please note that the way the client-server communication in EnSight is handled has changed between version 10.0 and 10.1 (so a prior version of EnSight could be working fine on the same machine).

There are a couple of things we can test to verify if this is the problem.

1) If you have a license key for at least standard level, you can set up a client-server manual connection. To do so, open two terminals, and execute on them at the same time the following commands:

ensight101.client -cm
ensight101.server -c localhost

Does EnSight open correctly now?

2) Let's check the network on your machine. Open a terminal, and type
hostname
to find the name of your machine. Then, type
ping <hostname>

Are you able to ping the machine, or do you get a "unknown host" message?

If you can not ping your machine using its hostname, then you will need to modify your network settings.
Add your computer and IP address to the /etc/hosts file. The format is:

IP Address Computer_name

Also add the name of the computer to the /etc/sysconfig/network file:

HOSTNAME=<name_of_computer>

Then REBOOT his computer.

If none of this works, add the line:

order hosts,bind

to the /etc/host.conf file. Then REBOOT again.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

Daniele,

Glad to hear it helped.

If you can open EnSight by setting manually the client-server connection, but not by using "ensight101" directly, then it definitely is a problem with the networking configuration on your machine.

You can use the manual connection as a work-around, but I'd suggest you to fix the network configuration anyway by following the suggestions above (would prevent problems also for other applications that use the same communication protocol that EnSight uses).

As always, let us know if you have more questions.

Bests,
Marina
