Hello all,

I intend to implement a spray evaporation model in Converge. The model would only account for the rate of mass transfer due to two different mechanisms of evaporation. The mechanisms are dependent on the prevailing ambient conditions and the droplet temperature. Therefore, I wish to stick to either the Chiang or the Frossling correlation for calculating the rate change of the droplet radius.

I would like to if this could be done. If yes, then what are the suggested modifications that I should carry out in my user_spray_evap.c?

Thanks in advance.

Sampath,

Can you elaborate more on what you are trying to do? We have both Frossling and Chiang models available in user_spray_evap.c for you to change as needed.

Thanks,

Hello Sameera,

Based on the theory manual of Converge, the mass transfer and the temperature of a droplet are calculated using an ODE if the droplet temperature is assumed to be uniform. The vaporization model that I wish to implement, calculates the mass transfer of the droplet as a combination of two different mechanisms.

The mass transfer in my case, is a sum of the contribution of heat transfer from the ambient to the droplet, under hotter ambient conditions and from the droplet to the ambience, under conditions of higher fuel temperature.

I wish to use the Frossling/Chiang models for calculating the droplet radius change but wish to add my mass transfer mechanism to model the droplet vaporization ODE.

Thanks,
Sampath

I pasted the equations for a better representation of the problem statement.

Sampath,

Do you need our help to write this UDF? If so, please email us at support@convergecfd.com.

Thanks,
