CFX (Workbench) 3D Hard-Disk Space ERROR

Hello All,
I'm quite new to this forum and the CFX program itself. So, I have some basic questions here. The model I'm trying to work with is a 3D model of a normal flat plate, with the incoming air flow velocity of 10[m/s]. The points to mention are that my Meshing is quite refined, specially around the plate surfaces, and the model is unsteady with a total time of 10[s], and timesteps of 0.05[s]. I have set-up CFX to save the results for each time step. Now, the issue is that the file size exceeds 70 GB for this model!!!!! Initially, CFX filled up my entire hard-drive and stopped half way through with the "No Hard Disk Space left" error (Code1). Then I bought a 750 GB External-Hard Drive and repeated the same simulation and this time it worked all the way to the final iteration of the last timestep (10 hours later), where it returned the exact same error. But this time I have more than 600 GB available on my hard disk. The question are: 1- Does it make sense for a CFX file to exceed 40-70 GB? 2- Why does CFX give the same error with 600 GB left on my External HDD? I appreciate any help, suggestions and/or hints. Regards, |

So you have 200 sets of results. If you're saving a full results file at every timestep then it's certainly possible that each one would be larger than say 500 MB. Usually you would not save results every timestep or just pick a few variables of interest.
Your external HD is probably not used during the run since the solver runs in temp space by default when running in Workbench. Check the Workbench options and look for the CFX section to change this. |

Also make sure you have maximum compression set for the results files.

Thanks for the responses.
I agree with your point, stumpy, on only storing a couple of parameters and not the entire results in each timestep. Yet, I'm not sure if I can make CFX use my External HD for its calculations (as the temporary folder). I have to see how I can do that. Also, ghorrocks, I'm not sure how to do this but I assume it's somewhere in the setting (where I say how frequently the results be stored.) Am I somewhat correct here? Cheers, |

In Workbench version 13.0 go to:
"Tools > Options > CFX > Set the location....." to pick the temp folder for CFX. For good measure also set "Tools > Options > Project Management > Folder for Temp....". |

Hi!
How did you set up to save each time step in transient solution? I'm getting crazy trying to set-up this! thanks, Jordi |
