So as I understand it in my case where I am looking for erosion rates and not a very detailed study of the flow or particle behavior, this is good enough to obtain an estimation of the erosion rate.

I will go on with this and if I find some data to compare my results with I will post it here. I have got the impression that the number of articles studying erosion estimation with CFD are not many!

Thanks a lot for your help Glenn!

There are lots of articles on erosion rates. Have a look in the references mentioned in the CFX documentation for starters, but there should be zillions more.

Hi,

Further on this subject, I have another question that I would appreciate any help with.
I am trying to estimate the erosion rate on a pipeline which contains Lead (Pb) parts. The erosion model constants for Steel grades are well established. But I haven't found any information about Lead so far. Are there any familiar articles that give wider information about estimating model constants for erosion models for different metals?
The erosion models I have been testing are Finnie, Tabakoff and Zhang.

This is not really a CFX question. You are going to have to do a literature search to find an answer to this question. Time to visit the university library.
