Hi everyone,

I tried play the cfx tutorial, Oscillating plate (Tutorial 23 in 12.1-version), in ansys 12.1 linux 64-bits.
I couldn use the proper workbench, so I follow the guide of 11.0-version-tutorial (P353-368, Tutorial 21).
Every step was completed as the tutorial said. I create my own oscillatingplate.inp after the Ansys, and oscillatingplate.def after Cfx.
Turn on the solver, define the run,
In Multified tab, the mechanical input file was set to oscillatingplate.inp. and rest setting left as default.
Start run.
But the solver couldn't do so
+--------------------------------------------------------------------+
An error has occurred in cfx5solve:

ANSYS Solver terminated unexpectedly with return code 32512
+--------------------------------------------------------------------+

This run of the ANSYS CFX Solver has finished.

I tried to play the .pre file given in the example folder to compare. But after a progress bar appear for seconds, there's nothing. I mean literally all the bottom on the tool bar were still in grey.

If anyone knows whats I ve done wrong, or the example file has imperfect, would like to share with me, I'll be really appreciated!

Your error says that the ANSYS solver failed (i.e. the Mechanical solver). Look in that output file for the error.

Thank. I think I sorted out the solver issue. But when I run it again, it gave that
CFX encountered the error: Read. Fatal error occurred when requesting Total Mesh Displacement for Interface. and
cplg_SendCommand failed to send the command: ERROR -- CFX encountered the error: Read. Fatal error occurred when requesting Total Mesh Displacement for Interface.

I tried change value of E to larger number. But it still show the same problem.

I have the same error 32512 in this tutorial...
Did You solve the problem?
What do You mean by "I think I sorted out the solver issue." ?

I am quite sure that there will never be any proper solution because the newer versions of wb are dealing with the FSI setup quite different... and stable when it comes to the tutorials. Nonetheless my personal impression is in 9 of 10 cases it is crashing due to false constraints in FEM or wrong mesh movement on cfd-side.

the error from above is indicating a structural problem so with out the ansys setup there is no way to shed any light on this.

Well i should have mentioned that i m getting this error while trying to perform a different fsi problem and not the tutorial..so you are saying that we have to be a little bit lucky..thank you anyway

transient or steady?
Some thoughts:
+Check your displacement at the interfaces via monitorpoints
+display the convergence WITHIN each iteration (somewhere near the output options in CFX --> so you can judge about the displacements for every iteration(couplingstepstagger iteration))
+did you try the under-relaxation?
+converge the forces at the interfaces less than 0.01
+converge the mesh displacement pretty good (max 1E-5, more iterations 15-20)
+ write a full backup every timestep/coupling step with "export mesh"-option active to see whats going on
+ whats the density ratio between solid and fluid (--> added mass effect)?

should be enough for now...

The analysis is transient and the error appears at first after pressing start button. Partitioning and iteration do not even begin. The ratio is about 2. if that helps, before seting the structural analysis i first perform a thermal analysis on the solid domain in order to apply thermal load on it and then i move to cfx..

You are talking about the file having .stdout format? It seems to be empty (0kb). Sorry i am still new at this and i do not know how to open it

okay... to bad. this really sound like ansys crashing in the very first place.
+try to deactivate the force-interaction by setting the cfx under relax to 0
+ try to change the order of the loop (there is a setting in cfx-pre that let you decide whether to solve ansys or cfx first)
+ deactivate the temp. load and start with an unstressed ansys-model, just to see if it starts.

PS.:did you have proper licences?

Hello it's me again. Neewbie i followed your suggestions and i managed to run a simulation. However, i m getting no wall deformation at all. As you can see what i get for mesh displacement is this:

do you know any possible reason why does this happen and how to fix it?

just guessing but ... looks like there is no displacement?
1# reason because there are no forces (due to false coupling/ hard underrelax.)
2# struct. is to stiff to move by given external (CFD-)Forces

so... check for the forces transmitted via the interface,
should like this
Code:
                      MULTI FIELD ANALYSIS STEP OPTIONS

TIME AT BEGINNING OF ANALYSIS. . . . . . . 0.0000
TIME AT END OF ANALYSIS. . . . . . . . . . 2.0000
TIME STEP NUMBER. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14
STAGGER ITERATION NUMBER. . . . . . . . . . . 6. CUM MF ITER = 147

                  FIELD INFORMATION FOR MULTIFIELD ANALYSIS

CURRENT FIELD NAME FOR ANALYSIS. . . . . ANSYS
TIME AT BEGINNING OF CURRENT ANALYSIS. . . 0.13000
TIME AT END OF CURRENT ANALYSIS. . . . . . 0.14000

THIRD SYNCHRONIZATION POINT OF MASTER CODE:
SERVE SLAVES THE TIME STEP CONTROL INFORMATION TO START A SOLVE

FOURTH SYNCHRONIZATION POINT OF MASTER CODE:
LOAD TRANSFER AT THE BEGINNING OF SOLUTION

FORCE SUM FOR FIELD 1 ACROSS INTERFACE 2

RECEIVING FORCE FX SUM = 5.8707
RECEIVING FORCE FY SUM = 28.602
RECEIVING FORCE FZ SUM = 0.14742E-04

FORCE SUM FOR FIELD 1 ACROSS INTERFACE 3

RECEIVING FORCE FX SUM = 0.38763
RECEIVING FORCE FY SUM =-0.68591E-01
RECEIVING FORCE FZ SUM =-0.72650E-07

FORCE SUM FOR FIELD 1 ACROSS INTERFACE 1

RECEIVING FORCE FX SUM = -4.9460
RECEIVING FORCE FY SUM = -34.622
RECEIVING FORCE FZ SUM =-0.57561E-05
in the ANSYS OUT FILE

also check for the maxVal(Total Mesh Displacment)@Interface1 2 3 4 to see if there is anything moving.

so you can pin down what´s happening and what´s the reason. First place is to check the interfaces for the forces. If there are any then the "problem" is on the structural side.

hi,
now,i do FSI ansys, and in transient structural setup, thermal condition is set on structure, when start,i meet this message"Unable to get ANSYS temperature from data-level structure for MultiField analysis",have u face it?
could give me some advises.

Hi everybody,
I'm implementing the tutorial Two way FSI using ANSYS Fluent Part-1 in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGPmyGFnzhA but I'm having some trouble during the data transfer between the fluid and solid domain, it simply doesn't work and doesn't apear any error (image attached), the solver isn't updating the solution. My licenses are ANSYS ACADEMIC RESEARCH and TEACHING ADVANCED. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? I already try other FSI tutorials and the same thing occurs. Could be a problem of software definitions or my license specifications?
Thanks in advance
