What's new in the Version 13 Preview 3?

Hi,
I just noticed on the ANSYS Customer Portal that there's Version 13 Preview 3 for download. Anyone know what's new/different in this (also for mesh generation)? Our IT group are to maxed out to install it, so I'll wait for the full release, but just curious now. |

Bunch of general solver improvements, full release of rigid body.
Meshing wise lots of general improvements, more diagnostics for cfd meshes, improve inflation layer algorithms. Also a few more improvements in icem and tgrid. But having had a bit of a play the meshing is a bit buggy in places atm, but this will be fixed before full release Im sure. On the whole is looking pretty good. At the bottom of the download page is the documentation. It includes release notes which describe all new features - there are a lot of them.

Schedule seems to be for full release to be mid sept to possibly early nov.

I really felt three cool features in the new CFX. One is the time transform blade row models. This would allow you to investigate transient interaction between blade rows by using a single blade in each row (or better yet several) instead of having to model the full 360 degrees. You can imagine the computational savings. CFX 13 also has a full release of the 6DOF solver including a valuable new CEL function which allows you to get the position of the object in space and rotation. The other cool thing I noticed is the conditional GGI. Let's say you have a diaphragm that breaks, the conditional GGI can be set up to solve that in one configuration.
I actually think the cooler features are in Meshing. First there is body by body meshing. So you can select the order of meshed bodies which is great for multibodied parts. Also the multizone method can now be used on single bodies within a part (before it would do all bodies in that part). And then there is the single machine parallel meshing for the patch independent and Multizone methods. I'm really stoked about that. Finally there is parameter control of the meshing that using the parameter manager in Workbench. This will be great for doing grid independence studies. |
