Multiple Solid Domains - Interfaces

First off, please excuse my ignorance, I have just started using CFX....
I'm working on a model in CFX-Pre that has multiple (many) solid domains, and I have a couple questions: 1. How do I determine which volumes/locations belong in which solid domains? Should I create a separate solid domain for each individual solid volume? Or can I group all volumes with similar material types into a single solid domain? 2. When I have more than two solid domains, with the "Automatic Default Interfaces" enabled, CFX-Pre does not appear to successfully determine/set the Default Interfaces. It automatically creates one "Default Solid Solid" Interface in the Simulation, but for a model with more than 2 solid bodies, wouldn't I need multiple solid-solid interfaces? For instance, if I had solid domains 1-3, I'd need a solid-solid interface between domains 1-2 and another interface between domains 2-3... is that right, or am I confused? How do I determine which volumes/locations => Yes, but repeat two times the same "2d regions" for EACH 3D domain or between these two 3D domains! Or can I group all volumes with similar material types into a single solid domain? => I´m no sure if you can do that! ...but for a model with more than 2 solid bodies, wouldn't I need multiple solid-solid interfaces? I think so! |

I created a separate domain for each solid volume. Then I re-defined the default solid-solid interfaces and added new solid-solid interfaces such that each solid-solid interface was between two adjacent solids only (one solid domain per side). The faces selected for each interface side 1 were coincident and identical to the faces selected for the interface side 2. That seemed to work.

Hi Scott,
Answer to #1 is it depends on what you want. You can do it either way. Sometimes having more domains is useful, but if you can do it with a single domain I would go that way. Answer to #2 depends on the grid connection type (1 to 1 or GGI). For GGI you can probably get away with single interface for Fluid Solid and a single Solid Solid. For 1 to 1 there are constraints on the number of domains on side 1 and 2. CFX Pre should handle both cases correctly. In your example you could have two or one interface, does not matter, but having two interfaces will probably give you some more intuitive output for the heat flows. |
