hi...i wish to perform analysis on ic engine in-cylinder gas flow and combustion process. i think cfx will be a good option for this analysis. but i'm entirely new to this area. can anybody help me in giving some idea about the method to do this?. i need to make a moving mesh for the piston of the ic engine. can i do this in cfx?. or is there any other better and easier tool, other than cfx, available for this to be done?...

Hi,
My PhD thesis used CFX to model IC engines. You can view it at http://hdl.handle.net/2100/248 To be honest, Fluent and StarCD have greater functionality for doing the mesh motion needed to do the piston and valve motion. If you are starting from scratch and have access to StarCD or Fluent I would recommend that. Hopefully in future releases CFX will gain the additional mesh motion stuff to allow simple IC engine modelling. Glenn Horrocks |

Hi Glenn, thanks for your response....Think what you said will be a gud idea as I'm starting from the scratch....Hope online tutorials will be available for Fluent....My idea was to model the object in ProE, and import the model to Ansys WB and mesh there, and later to CFX to do moving mesh analysis....Is thatz the way to do that effectively?....I heard with CFX such sort of importing files can be done....Is that possible with Fluent and StarCD too?....

Hi,
The issue with CFX is that it does not support mesh deletion and addition and fully closing something like a poppet valve is tricky. I understand StarCD and Fluent have features to do this. That is why I recommend you check these packages before deciding on which CFD package to use. Glenn Horrocks |

hi...thanks for your response mr.tiwari.....have u done the same in ansys cfx?...if so, can u give me a short description of the work u have done on this?....also, do u know how to integrate combustion process together with gas flow in a combustion chamber?....
