Maximum mesh expansion factor

Hello!
I think since CFX-Version 11, there is a new factor in the out - file called the maximum mesh expansion factor. Now, the problem i have is that this factor is beyond the recommended limit for nearly all of my meshes, although all other mesh quality parameters are in an acceptable range. The grids are usually tetra grids with inflation layers and done in ICEM. The question i have is now if somebody has some guidlines on how to avoid the high maximum mesh expansion factors and the exact meaning of this factor. Is it a measure for the cell volume growth? Thanks in advance! Daniel |

Hi,
The best way to produce good meshes is to practice using the meshing tools, talk to experienced users and go to training. It is a skill which requires practice like many skills. You also need the correct tools - some geometries are best meshed with a hex mesh and means the basic mesher in CFX may not be able to do a good job and additional license options are required. Thank you very much for your answer. Hex mesh is no option due to complexity of the geometry.
It seems that the high expansion factors are due to the prism layer however i am not able to avoid it. The high factors appear also in the cfx tutorials where a prism layer is present (see tutorial 5 and 13). So do you know a workaround? |
