Horizontal submerged jets

Hi there.
I´ve been working with CFX 10.0 in horizontal submerged jets, air-water buoyant, isothermal system. There is the injection of air at high speed through nozzles. The drag of bubbles upward moves water in this direction - the geometry is a circular pipe with axis parallel to g. The comparison of numerical and experimental data show an important difference on the penetration of the jet within the continuous fluid. Does anyone have any sugestion? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
This sounds like a very difficult model to get accurate. I am not surprised you are having dificulties matching experimental results on this one. How are you modelling it? Eularian or Lagrangian? Glenn Horrocks |

Hi there.
I´m using an euler-euler aproach, with a two equation turbulence model on continuous phase and algebric model on the dispersed. |

Hi,
To get this to work correctly you will have to resolve the bubble interaction with the liquid and the resulting drag force. Needs a mega-fine mesh so you can resolve the bubble shape accurately and the flow around it. Very tricky and probably not practical on anything less than a supercomputer. Have you considered using a Lagrangian approach for the bubbles? This treats the jet as a stream of little particles. This may be able to more accurately capture the physics and it will certainly be far less computationally expensive. Worth a try. Glenn Horrocks |
