Default Importing Solidworks Assembly

Hello,

I am attempting a dynamic analysis on a small rope bridge I modeled in Solidworks. I would like to analyze the whole assembly in ANSYS but am having problems transferring the file.

When I imported the assembly into ANSYS I used all the default settings (no defeaturing, merge coincident keypts, create solid if applicable, delete small areas). The result I get is an unassembled stack of parts, and the solid parts seem to be saved as areas not volumes (I can replot keypoints, lines, and areas, but no volumes).

I have tried to create a volume by selecting areas, and this works well. However, when I try to move the volume into its proper position I get the following error:

"Keypoint (#) is attached to line (#), which is attached to an entity that cannot be moved. Command VGEN unable to be executed with the move option and this set of entities."

I have tried saving the parts individually as iges files and opening them in ANSYS but once I have two parts imported the program either shuts down or I get the same error message as before.

Is there some way to import a Solidworks assembly into ANSYS without getting these problems, or is there something I am doing wrong? I am new to this program so any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

hi ! Try to export your solidworks assembly into parasolid file, this can be imported in design modeller and then to ansys.

hope it works.

Pankaj.
