Recently been considering to stop using ANSYS Meshing and instead use Fluent Meshing because of the recent poly-hexcore capability, which has the option "Avoid 1:8 Cell Jump in Hexcore" to avoid the hanging nodes which CFX cannot deal with. I see this now as the best meshing method: robustness of tetra/prism meshing for complex geometries with the benefit of cubic volume elements instead of tetra elements away from walls, and all with a lower element quantity.
Just curious if others have been using Fluent Meshing poly-hexcore for CFX simulations. As a long time CFX user (very novice Fluent user) I find Fluent confusing with some things that it does, unlike easy to use CFX. But ideally I would do everything in Fluent, but I have questions about Fluent that I cannot get answers for. |

No I have never used this. I tend to create an ICEM mesh and convert tets in the volume into a hex elements, to end up with the same kind of mesh.
Nevertheless, your query makes me curious. Do you mean that it is possible to import cutcell mesh from fluent into CFX, by using an option "Avoid 1:8 Cell Jump in Hexcore"? |

I have been looking more and more into switching to Fluent Meshing for my CFX simulations.
Not sure about importing cut-cell meshes. But rather making poly-hexcore meshes from fresh in Fluent Meshing using this option to put buffer(?) layers of polyhedra since CFX does not work with hanging nodes in the octree arrangement. I was just curious if other CFX users had used Fluent Meshing with this mosaic technology, which looks great, to get away from the tetra/prism meshes of ANSYS Meshing. I stopped using ICEM ages ago because of the stagnant GUI, and it appears to being taken over by SpaceClaim Interactive Meshing (which I have avoided due to the errors I get when trying it, plus lack of tutorials). |
