How to apply bondary conditions only having mesh.

Hi, i have cgns file, but it has only tetras. It has not suraface elemnts or geometry. Can it possible .if not then what are options to apply boundary conditions having only surafce elemnts and volume elemnts. in my cases should i have surafce elements as well as geometry? Thnanks
