Surface size ignored by ICEM

Hi. I have created a mesh within ICEM CFD TETRA where some of the surfaces have a surface size attached, see picture. Why is it that ICEM ignores it and creates bigger cells? <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:66%; text-align:right">From fluent6.3</td></tr></table>

Surface mesh sizes often arnt respected because adjacent mesh sizes need to be multiples of 2 of each other (2 4 8, 0.5 0.25 ...). The mesh on the cone looks about 2X the size of the mesh on the smaller diameter tube.

Did you apply a Maximum Size or a Minimum Size? You should apply Maximum Size for the biggest size you want on that surface. The mesher subdivides to try to get to the Maximum Size value - the Minimum Size value is there to stop the cells from getting smaller.

hmm.... great! After a restart of ICEM the surface mesh size now works! That must be a bug. Annoying.
