limit of the CFX

Dear Friends,
Could you tell me the limit of CFX 10.0? If the elements are too big, CFX will tell me there is not enough memory. Thank you in advance Eric |

4GB of ram gives you about 5x10^6 elements.
However once your mesh size goes above 20x10^6 elements you pretty much need a supercompuer to solve in a reasonable time. |

Are u sure joe? In my case it just stops to iterate (1.4 million) . I am using coupled solver, flow is compressible, transonic and viscous.

The memory needed is dependent on mesh size as well as physics that you are using, so it is tough to give an exact number as terms of bytes/node. Joe's estimates sound reasonable though.

Try 64bit version of CFX with 64bit OS(Windows XP 64bit version or Linux).
Also sufficient amount of physical memory and CPUs should be supplied. Then most memory allocation problem will be resolved. |

Hi Eric,
Are you running an academic or commercial version? The academic version is limited to 250,000 nodes. The commercial version is only limited by memory requirements. The limit is about 2GB per process for the 32 bit solver, and is virtually unlimited for the 64 bit one, although you would be best to pick up parallel keys and distribute the run to keep the solver at around 2GB per process or you'll wait the age of the universe for it to run.
