Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with simulating a centrifugal compressor with a recirculation device. I have a rotating impeller domain and a stationary recirculation domain and those two are connected by a frozen rotor interface. At the impeller shroud, I activated the "Nonoverlap Conditions" and used a Counter Rotating Wall which is smooth. This works just fine. But as soon as I make it a rough wall and add a Sand Grain Roughness to it, I immediately get the error message "Ansys solver exited with return code 1". The out-file says the following: Details of error:- ---------------- Error detected by routine PEEKCS CDANAM = HOW CRESLT = NONE Current Directory : /FLOW/BOUNDCON/ZN1/BCP9/NOVARIABLES/RGH +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Writing crash recovery file | +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ Details of error:- ---------------- Error detected by routine MAKDAT CDANAM = LVAR CDTYPE = INTR ISIZE = 174 CRESLT = OLD Current Directory : /FLOW/ALGORITHM/ZN1/SYSTEM/VARIABLES +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | An error has occurred in cfx5solve: | | | | The ANSYS CFX solver exited with return code 1. No results file | | has been created. | +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ End of solution stage. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem? Thanks and regards, Jonas |

The output file shows it crashes just after the monitor points are initialised. It seems to be looking for a variable associated with one of your monitor points and it cannot find it. Check that your monitor points are properly defined and are using the correct variable name (including case).

I have seen the same error in recent releases, and you may have to contact ANSYS CFX support for a temporary workaround.
Do not recall if you need a modified configuration file.
