Error when creating prismatic layer in ICEM

I am trying to grow a prismatic boundary layer in ICEM, but consistently get the error "shells 89371 and 105924 not consistently oriented Application is finished Error: Prism mesher failed to create mesh"
I have tried various methods of getting round it (for example only meshing certain surfaces, meshing surfaces one at a time but the error keeps reoccuring whichever surface I try and create the layer from. If anybody has any pointers as to how I can get the mesh to 'grow' it would be hugely appreciated! Many thanks, Andrew |

Edit mesh > Repair mesh has tools that can help fix that.
However whenever I get messages like that it means I have cocked up the geometry or mesh somehow. It's always better to find and fix the root cause of meshing issues rather than try to apply a band aid. |

What is the problem though? How exactly can I locate which are the cells it is refering to? I have spent time making sure the geometry is of good quality, as is the mesh. Unfortunately the problem still persists...

This error usually indicates some 'problem' with the surface mesh. I think this happens if there is more than one region surrounded by surface mesh (disjoint volumes). You can also try re-orienting the surface mesh - to make sure it's all consistent.

I agree with Joe, this error is usually a sign of a geometry problem.
Could be edges that don't connect properly or a very small singularity somewhere for example. |
