Default Creating 2D geometry with ICEM

Dear all,

I need to create a quasi 2D model in ICEM 10.0.1 for Tetra elements. I've heard this is possible by creating a surface mesh and extruding the surfcase mesh by 1. However, after I have created a surface mesh solely (no volume mesh), I can not pick anything for "Elements" in the Extrude Mesh option. Anybody here who can help? Thanks

hi again,

perhaps there is someone who can tell me briefly step by step how to create a quasi-2D mesh. Thank you for your help.

It should simply work. If you click on the 'Select elements' icon in the extrude mesh panel it should allow you to select the elements to extrude. Then you can select individual elements, by part, etc. Or if you want to extrude all your surface mesh - just hit 'a' on the keyboard for all elements.

Hi,

Thanks. Well, I managed to select all elements, but only when I have created a 3D geoemtry and a surface mesh for all surfaces. Then extruded elements look rough not having smooth surface (maybe this is because of wrong element surface normal directions of some elements). But how to extrude one layer width from a 2D plane surface? Do you have any idea?

Hi, OK, I found a way to extrude the mesh from a plane. Is it correct having no surface mesh for the other geometry parts then? But how to include prism inflation from other parts, if no surface mesh exists there? Do I need to set prism inflation before extrusion? If so, how to do prsim inflation on this surface?

Thanks for anyones help in advance.
