Import a rectangular domain into CFX 5.7 from ICEM

Hi everyone,
I'm a beginner in using ICEM CFX. I previously used the CFX 5.5 which includes CFX Build inside. My problem is that mesh of a regular rectangle fluid domain imported from ICEM to CFX 5.7 become a irregular rectangle box with broken edges. No matter how small the max. mesh size is set in ICEM meshing, the outcome is the same. Is there any method to fix this problem? or I missed some steps in meshing process? Thanks SKLam |

I dindt understand your problem correctly.
But in ICEM if you have different part names for your blocking in CFX you will find broken edges(i.e. individual blocks). But its not a problem for solver as you will define all these blocks under one domain. |

Siv, Thanks for your help.
In ICEM, I constructed a rectangular box with six surfaces, and then built a solid for that box. After that, I did the meshing for that box and didn't built block. Finally, I output the file in a CFX 5 format. It's a mesh file, *.msh I import this file into CFX 5.7 and found that that the edeges of the rectangular box are like curve or broken line. I do think that each continous edge should be straight like what I can obtain in CFX 5.5 Build. |

Which version of ICEm did you use? Could that be a graphic issue? Do you see the same thing when you open this def file in post?

hi SKLam
For meshing u have to do with points and curve then we will get correct mesh at edges of rect. domain i mean while meshing in ICEM, u have to draw the points at the edges ,then mesh it u will get what u have expected with regards cfdstudent |

Re: TB Thanks for your help. I am using ICEM 5.0. I have checked that it is not the problem by viewing the results on different PC. Yes, the same as what I saw in CFX Pre when the def file is opened in Post...........

ICEMCFD for CFX 5 tends to have lots of problems. I had similar problem where my inlet boundary disappeared after importing the mesh to Pre. However, problem disappeared in V5.1. I'm not sure if it's your case as well. Try using ICEM 5.1 & above and see if problem still existed. Good luck.

Re: TB I also think that there are a lot of problems found when I am using ICEM 5.0. Let me try to use ICEM 5.1 or above and see if the problem can be fixed.
Thanks for your help! SK |

Re: cfdstudent I have tried your suggestion yesterday. It does work!!!! I can obtain a regular rectangular domain with straight edge again now in CFX 5.7. Thanks so much for your help!
Thanks TB as well! SK |
