Hello everybody,

I have the following issue:

- I want to hex mesh a volute. As it has difficult geometry I created the blocks a follows by hand: Via the edit Mesh tab --> Create Elements, I created manually hex elements (by choosing points) where the geometry is difficult. Then via File --> Blocking-->Create from Unstruct Mesh I got my blocks.

- When I now want to create a block via extrude Face in the blocking tab, the blocks have a different color then the ones from the manual approach and a strange mesh occurs at each interface of an extruded Faceblock.

-When I want to merge for a example two blocks (one created via extrude Face and the other created from the unstructured mesh) it says: Merge Region contains more than one material.

Does anybody know where the problem is?

Thanks a lot for your help!

This sounds like basic ICEM questions. You should do the ICEM tutorials to learn the basics of this software.

Also be aware that ANSYS has a software package called Turbogrid specifically designed to generate high quality meshes on turbo machines. You might find that a better meshing application for your case.

Thanks Mr. Horrocks for your answer.

I have solved the problem. The problem was that the manually created blocks were added to a different part then the one I extruded.

Have a nice day!
