Parallel Computing help for a newbie

A friend of mine would like to set up a cluster to speed up graphics rendering. He has two old computers at present, both single core pIII 1Ghz machines running on a 10/100 broadband router. Can anyone suggest hardware/software I might need to obtain to help out? Thanks
