Hi. I have experienced computer shut off problem during run due to power failure. So iwant to know that restart run from where it has been shut down is possible or not in cfx.I think if we have stopped run then it is possible but if sudden break down is there then can we start the run frm where it has stopped? what are the options for that? also what is back up in output control in cfx pre..I do no t understand it ?is it related to abovementiond problem? I have also tried it.I have given 50 itertions and my total itertions were 100.Now i have stooped it on 55 itertions.I have again restrat run.It starts from 51 itertaions but it goes upto 150 iertaions because total iteration were 100 .Actually it should be stopped at 100 iertaion.so what is the meaning of this. Can anybody pls give this information Thanx and marry crismas

Refer to user manual for details. You can backup your result by either specifying which iteration interval to do backup in Pre or pressing the backup button in solver manager. CFX will backup the result in a file (*.bak). Just rename it to *.res and use cfx5solve -def *.def -ini *.res to restart the calculation.

Thakx.but i have tried it.I have given 100 iterations. To check it I have stopped run (You can consider it power failure) at 50 iterations and restrat the run .It has started from 51 ietartion but has gone upto 150 ierations. My problem is why it shoulod has gone upto 150 iterations even though 1oo were total itertions.

Because you have specified 100 iterations in your definition file. Solver will start from iteration no. 51 and solve for 100 iterations.

ok sir, thanx.now i am writing these thing according to waht i have understood.pls let me know whether is it right?I am running a problem with 100 iterations given in solver control in cfx pre..I have also made a back up files at each 10 ietrations.I a mrunnig solver. At 51 ietration suddenly power shuts off.But due to back up it has made backupfile.bak .Now i am resting my run with .bak(.res) as initial file.but due to 100 iertions it will go upto 150 iteartions.so i have to go in pre and change 50 ierations instead of earlier 100 iterations so solver will stop at 100 iterations.is it right?pls let me know urgently.because i am facing this prob everyday.

Yes. However, if the solution converged to target residuals within 150 iterations, solver may stop earlier. A 3D problem will normally take more than 100 iterations to converge anyway.

Thanx a lot sir.but this is for ststic condition.what will be about transient condition. In that should i have to change total time and time steps.

Hello Ravi, For transient simulation you donīt need to change total time. It will take total time as the target criteria whatever may be the number of breaks (i mean starting the simulations). In Steady state simulations for every new start up it will calculate for no.of steps u give in prolem setup.(in your case from 51 to 150.if u stop at 100 next time it will run till 200 steps.)
