I would like to save the velocity data for a single node over a series of time steps so that I can take a FFT and find the frequency of oscillation using CFX 10.0. Can anyone help me with this?

In Post, create a Chart. On the Chart tab select Type = Time, on the Chart Line tab select the Location (a Point that you have to already had created) and select the Variable. You'll get a graphic with the Variable values at the time instants available in Post. You may export the data.

If you want to have the data at every timestep, in Pre create a Monitor Point.

Regards,

Rui

You could also create a Monitor Point for Velocity at the point of interest. Pull up the plot for the monitor point history in the Solver Manager, right-click on the plot and select "Export Plot Data". This will allow you to export a csv (comma separated value) file that Excel can open up. Mike

I'll create a monitor pt in post and export the data to a text file using command line in command window. I shouldn't be hard as post adopted PERL language.

Of course you can try Rui's method but I never like the way Post do the 2D graph....

Opaque will become famous soon enough
To complete Lance's answer, once you have created your monitor point, you should be able to visualize the transient values in the ANSYS CFX Solver Manager.

In addition, once the run is completed you can load your results file in CFD-Post, and create a chart of the same monitor point. See options for Charts.

Once the chart for your monitor point is created, you can also evaluate the FFT on that data series.

Good luck.

Thank you very much ! I really appreciate it.
If I would like to save the velocity data for a line over a series of time steps. What can I put
instead of vertex average in the report type.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks
