Hi All,
Does anyone know if it’s possible to create a Polyline on an imported user surface? Thanks. |

Why not give it a try yourself?

I am asking since you do not report a problem, but are asking a general question which suggests you didn't try it yourself first. Please be more specific next time.
To be honest, I don't know the answer since I never import a user surface. Can you create a polyline on the intersection of the user surface with a boundary or a plane? If not, it might be impossible. I suspect the results file uses nodes, and your user surface uses its own coordinates. They have nothing in common. But I might be wrong. So, maybe you can explain what you want and then we can find out if there is a workaround within the framework of CFD-Post. |

I am trying to extract a variable circumferentially on the wall of an artery model every 1mm across the length of my model. I have already created a matlab/ANSYS interface code that will do this for Wall Shear (which is simple since this variable is a solution variable from the simulation) automatically. For my calculated variable this is where I’ve gotten: I exported a csv. file with Wall shear variable and the connecting, face, node info and calculated my new variable via matlab (unfortunately couldn’t calculate this variable in Post). I replaced the Wall Shear column with my new variable in the csv. file and imported this as a user surface back into CFD-Post. I created a plane with the option point and Normal, the plane bound being circular and the bound radius being that of the arterial diameter. I then create a polyline where it asks for the boundary list which I select as my wall domain as it won’t allow me to select anything relating to my user surface! I select the location as my plane. I then go to export where I select location as polyline and the variable as the variable on my user surface. However, I get an error that this variable isn’t part of the geometry.... I am pretty stumped but hoping there will be a workaround however tedious to overcome this! |

why weren't you able to calculate your variable in post?
There is a tab called variables in the post, You can write your own. there is also a tab called User surface so you can import your own too. I probably don't understand exactly what you want but, I am sure something can be done as all the tools you are talking about are there. |
