I have a machine tool in a flow environment with constant boundary conditions (inlet velocity, outlet pressure etc.). The soultions of this simulation serves as the boundary data for thermo-elastic simulations inorder to find thermal deformation. However, the experiments results have time of 2 days and I have to give simulations time accordingly for thermo elastic simulations. My question is, which type of simulation (steady/ transient ) is more suited in CFD for this problem. For importing boundary convection data for each time step, I believe I should perform transient CFD simulations. But the Heat transfer coefficient values are independent of time and this creates the confusion whether I shoud stick with static CFD simulations. I seek some advice on this.
Thanks! |

It is common when you are dealing with multiple physics that they are on very different time scales. But the way to handle it depends on what you are doing - sometimes you can use a steady state approach, sometimes you need the full transient.
So you would have to explain what you are doing for us to suggest the best way forward. Some images would help.
