Having failed to export a hexa mesh from ICEM CFD 5.1 to CFX-pre 5.7.1, I was told it was because CFX couldn't recognize structured mesh, and convertion to unstructured mesh may be necessary before exporting. I wonder if it is the case, if so, how to create structured mesh without using CFX-bulid 5.0.

That is certainly not the case. When you export a mesh from ICEM CFD (any type) to CFX-5, it writes it to a neutral format. Make sure that you choose ICEM CFD as the mesh type in Pre when you import the mesh.

Many thanks for your response. I did choose ICEM CFD, so did my colleague, we both had the error message displaying as follows: 'Premature end of file found when reading header.' Wonder what that means.

Phrain, I hope the following steps would solve ur problem.

1.After creating the structured mesh in icem,go to file-->mesh-->load from blocking,this writes ur structured mesh in unstructured format(hex.uns) 2.Go to output tab,select the solver cfx5,then in the selection form select hex.uns along with ur filename.uns,give ok.This will create a file of icemcfd format itself 3.Go to pre,select icemcfd as the import mesh format,click ok.

This should work.
