Default model validation

Hello, all

My topic probably is too big, but it does bothered me a lot in my work.

for example, if I want to model a full-scale mixing unit with several impellers, how can I validate the model. Do I must do down-scale experiments for validation? Is it possible to model a simple, literature reported mixer (just have one impeller), then use the results to validate the model?

Another question is: in case if I am not able to get experiemental velocity data, is tracer test date (residence time distribution) enough for validation?

Thanks for your inputs!

Phil
