I am needing to run CFX on linux. Can anybody who has experience with this OS with CFX advice me what version I should get and what is maximum memory it can see on a P4. Thanks P.S- I will be running it on a desktop.

CFX offcially supports Redhat 7.3. CFX will not run on Redhat 9.0! If you want some linux which is not that old as 7.3, I can advice you Mandrake distribution, I'm using Mandrake 9.1 or 9.0 and everything is fine and smooth.

The memory limits are discussed few posts below this one. Linux has not got a problem with 4 GB of RAM. (You might need to recompile the kernel, but I think with default kernels coming with mandrake, you should not need it)

Just run on Redhat 7.3. CFX doesn't support any other so why take the risk. People have reported problems with mandrake. If you run into problems with anything other than 7.3 I guess you are on your own.

Bart, Do you know where I can buy a cd of redhat 7.3 ? are there any upgrdaes or service packs that will enhance my usage. I intend to run only CFX on it. Thanks

www.redhat.com You download the cd's fixes and upgrades are available. We also only run CFX on it. To have full access to the memory skip the install of the graphical interfaces (GNOME or KDE). You'll have a lean and mean OS then.

IF you want to buy it, Redhat box with the CDs may be found in some bookshops with computer literature.

You do not need to download it, you can just download it. Some mirrors with the distribution can be found on www.redhat.com. You just need to find one with the old 7.3. You do not need any servicepacks, maybe just update some services (like ssh) for security reasons. Matej

I have a colleague that is running CFX-5.6 on RedHat 9.1 withou any problems. The only extra thing he did was to download the old libraries and update the link in order to CFX use it.

Sorry, actually the distribution is Slackware, not RedHat.

No clue actually. But if you don't need it you might as well not install it to avoid it being in memory. Does that make any sense?

It is very easy to see. I think there must be more elegant way to see, but if you look at the top and write down your free (or used) memory and then fall to init 3 ( by typing as root init 3) you put away all the graphics and you can compare used or free memory.

If you ask about the disk space, it is something like 200-400 MB.

CFX-5 will be supported on RedHat 9.1 with the next release. Most commercial packages are not running on this version, so I wouldn't get too excited about it.

The problem is that the Linux distribution uses a new set of c libraries which deviate significantly from previous versions, providing no backwards compatibility.

Although it is officially compiled and tested on 7.3, you can safely run CFX-5 on RedHat 8.1.

I have run CFX5.6 on Red Hat AS 3.0 (the kernel is Linux-2.4.21-EL), everything is ok except CFX-BUILD, the error message is:

error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

pls give me some tip about it to fix! thanks
