Hello CFX: Is there a "known bugs"-list?

Hello CFX people,
I am wondering if there exists a "known bugs"-list for CFX5. This would be a very good idea even before fixing the bug in a patch, because often one spends hours or days in order to isolate or reproduce a bug that someone else already has found and described. Best place for such a list would be the comunity pages. Looking forward to your response, Henry |

I have for sure been missing such an initiative. But I do also understand that no software company is interessed in a long list with bugs where some of them are only relevant for a few users. But in respect of the users there should be one!!!! I have tried in the past been working with a problem, I did not get the proper results. I did continue for a long time to double check everything and ended up with that I was sure there was a bug in the code. When I contacted support I did get an object file with the correction, Meaning it was a known bug. That made me a bit angry because I could have saved a lot of time. Even worse I could see that it has not been corrected yet (CFX4.4), another user had similar problem where he/she posted the problem in the forum, I did answer, and hopefully saved him a lot of time.
Maybe you could start a thread at the community and let it develope and we will see what happens. Jan |

This is an ongoing issue for me as well. It is such a bad mindset with these vendors – they don't like to admit publicly that there are bugs in their codes. They seem to think the competition will use it against them. Bottom line is that ANY code as long and complicated as these are guaranteed to have bugs. But the vendors seem unwilling to step up to the plate and make life easier for other users by informing of known bugs. Frustrating, but don't know how to change this mentality.
One thought. What if we can get a bug list area on each of the user specific forums? The users can update this list, and the vendors can have an input if so desired to inform of correction plans. What say you Jonas? |

The distinction with bugs and poor model setup can be very blurred. I for one try to not hassle the support guys too much if I am experiencing a problem (trying to work the problem out myself). However like Jan said, there are occasions where the problem can be a result of a bug and not just an inappropriate model setup. So when do you make that call to support. Wait too long and you become very frustrated. Call to early and you feel bad about waisting their time. To the support teams credit, they always are very helpful and never get frustrate with any stupid calls that I have made (or at least have never let on to me !). But the issue of bug or user setup is definitely hard to define. (sorry for the ramblings !) Bob

I would transfer this discussion to the community forum, as this gives he people from CFX more roo to respond (only accessible to CFX customers). That is if you want an elaborate answer to your question.

Hello,
if bugs are known to CFX why shouldn't they publish them and tell people workarounds and promise to fix the problem in the next patch. That would be a prfessional approach. Everyone knows that there are bugs in any Software Package. The important thing how to handle that problem. Why has any user to reinvent the wheele? Still hoping to get a response from CFX, henry |
