I am a student. Now I am studying Compuatational Fulid dynamics and heat transfer. The teacher require us to find a 3-D prolbem which can be solved using commerical CFD software. Becauae I am really new to CFD,I wonder if somebody can provide a practical problem to me. I hope this problem could be solved with CFX5.5.1, and I prefer to solve a problem related to HVAC or Electronic cooling or Heat exchanger design. Thanks

Dear Hason, I fear your piece of string may be quite long with this particular question. May be the group would be more suggestive, if you tried to narrow the field a little ! Is there any area of study that interests you ? Is it a Masters project or a under grad project. Is it a long 3 month project or a 3 week project ?

thank you Mr. Bob. this is a Graduate course project. And it is not very big project. I think 3 weeks is OK. I am perticularlly interested in the electronic cooling and heat exchanger design. Thank you very much for your reply.

Therefore may I suggest that a simple 2D cas emay be best simulated ? You need to keep your problem as simple as possible, and as easy to compare as possible. That is not to say that the problem is itself a simple one to get good results out of. I have seen papers where people were modelling the flow field between to parallel heated flat plates, where the other 2 perpendicular flat plates (making up a box) were adiabatic. This was an early test case and itself not an easy thing to get an accurate solution to (from an academic point of view). So could you model something similar ?? how about cooling of a heated plate or something where you have an analytiacl answer to. Good luck Bob
